Ring a Ding
So there's this guy on the train that also happens to work in my building; I think on my floor. I'm intrigued by his habits.
He is a professional of some sort, but religiously brings a college-freshman-type backpack to work--wearing it on both shoulders. He also has silver rings on 8 fingers.
OK, first I don't understand how he doesn't set off the metal detectors with his Liberace fingers.
Second, I don't know how someone who works for a relatively conservative company can get away with that and also showing up to client meetings with a Jansport in tow. If we had a relaxed internet, advertising, high-end design, or sports-related corporate culture, I would think he was hip. But although I work in a design firm, we specialize in Hospitals and Laboratories; to say we're behind the trend wave is an understatement.
To top it all off, I'm a big observer of how people move about their environment. This cat always walks with his fingers crossed in a very "school marm" kind of fashion. Perhaps that's why I'm most intrigued; it is a habit very contradictory of the rest of his demeanor.
For once, I don't have a derogatory comment about this individual, but I must say that some people's choices in professional attire and demeanor really puzzle me.
